Sisters in Redondo Beach

Theresa (above) is a friend that I have known for about ten years. Growing up in Boston, Theresa is a die-hard New England Patriots fan, although it’s not a good idea to talk to her about the Patriots or Tom Brady these days. Her younger sister, Flora, is celebrating her birthday today. Although she graduated from college in the early 00′s, I think she’s turning something like 23 or so…or at least she looks it. :-) Happy birthday, Flora!

Sweet baby J

This 8-day old little girl was such a precious little thing! She was content to sleep and nurse during the whole session and hardly fussed at all. I just love newborns at this age! At about 1-week old, they are usually at their lowest weight, but this little one was already quite chubby.

Family session in PV

I shot this beautiful family down on the bluffs and down by the shoreline in Palos Verdes Estates. They were sport enough to get up early to go to one of my favorite locations to shoot landscape and portraits and it really paid off. They were really great to work with and the kids were a lot of fun although it took a bit of work to get some smiles. The light was absolutely perfect and we got some great shots.

Commercial Portraits, pt 2

We had our second on-location shoot for the UCLA Commerical Portraits class and this time we shot in the UCLA quad area on the Los Angeles campus. This time I had the pleasure to shoot with Elisabeth and Audrey. Besides having to contend with a strong wind which made using reflectors rather difficult, we had to contend with a bright sunny day which forced us to find the shelter of some nearby buildings. Overall, we had a good time shooting and besides rotating turns shooting, assisting, and modeling, we played around with shooting more more than a single person in which I shot George (the instructor) and Gladys pretending they were high-level executives of a large corporation.

Commercial Portraits, pt 1

I am attending a photo class at UCLA Extension on Commercial Portraiture. It is taught by an excellent commercial photographer, George Simian. He is a super nice guy and really has a way of making his subjects very comfortable in a short period of time and you can really tell from his images. We went out for a class photo shoot in the Westwood area of Los Angeles to shoot images of each other. We started off on the right foot by getting booted from a nearly empty little shopping arcade, so we moved into an alley. You know a photo shoot is good if security makes you leave.

Anyways, we then moved to a back alley and took portraits of each other. My partners were Kate and Christopher and they were a lot of fun to shoot with. We rotated between being the subject, photographer, and assistant. I much prefer being behind the camera and not in front of the camera and am sincerely hoping that they do not publish any of the photos that they took of me.
